List of bail conditions given to Nnamdi Kanu by Justice Binta Nyako

- As the federal government commences process to revoke Nnamdi Kanu's bail, here is a list of the bail conditions set him by Justice Nyako

- Justice Nyako signed the papers that gave Kanu his freedom on Friday afternoon, April 28, after all the conditions given to the IPOB leader for his bail was met

- The IPOB leader is believed to have flouted his bail conditions

As the federal government commences process to rearrest Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, over his alleged flout of bail conditions, the list conditions given to Kanu by Justice Binta Nyako.

1. Mr. Kanu must not hold rallies.

2. He must not grant interviews.

3. He must not be in a crowd of more than 10 people.

4. He must provide three sureties in the sum of N100 million each.

5. One of the sureties must be a senior highly placed person of Igbo extraction such as a senator.

6. The second surety must be a highly respected Jewish leader since Mr. Kanu said his religion is Judaism

7. The third surety must be a highly respected person who owns landed property and is resident in Abuja

8. The IPOB leader must deposit his Nigerian passport

9. He must also deposit his British passport with the court

10. He must provide the court with reports on the progress of his health and treatment on a monthly basis.
.11. The order for him to deposit his Nigerian and British passports also mean he cannot travel out of the country (If this is considered, it is the thirteenth condition).

It had earlier reported that the federal government of Nigeria had listed the reasons why it wants the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to be re-arrested and detained.

The office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, released a statement asking the court to revoke the bail granted Nnamdi Kanu in April 2017

University Of Ibadan Rejects JAMB’s 120 Admission Cut-Off Mark

The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has condemned and rejected the new Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) cut off marks for universities admission for 2017/2018 academic calendar.

A statement released by the university management, reads: “The Management of the University of Ibadan wishes to inform the public about the recently announced cut off marks of 120 for University Admission that UI will not lower her standards.

The Nigeria’s premier university still maintains her position in academic excellence and standards in order to continue to aspire towards becoming a world-class university.

It should worry us as patriots that candidates who scored just 30% in UTME can be admitted into some of our universities. Yet, we complain of poor quality of our graduates. You can hardly build something on nothing.

The consolation here is that since JAMB started conducting this qualifying exam in 1978, UI has never admitted any candidate who scored less than 200 marks out of the maximum 400 marks.

This remains our position as an institution aspiring to be world-class. Reality is that only about four other universities in the country have such high standard.

In fairness to the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, he repeatedly stressed at the Combined Policy Meeting held Tuesday, 22 August, 2017 that the Senate of each university still has wide powers for admission in the spirit of autonomy.

It is also gratifying to note that the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who chaired the meeting, apologised publicly for canceling Post UTME Screening last year.

To be fair to the incumbent Registrar of JAMB, he was not the Registrar when the policy somersault of cancelling POST UTME test was made last year. Prof Oloyede’s appointment was effective 1 August 2016, while the Policy Meeting for that year had held some two months earlier.”

What You Do Everyday That Spoil Your Mobile Phone Battery. - Winzik

Sharing my findings reading the manual for usage for the phone I bought TECNO W5 LITE.

Mobile phone battery is as far as every literate phone user is concerned the best thing that can make a user happy using his/her phone. Using a mobile phone whose battery is non-functional or weak is a horrible experience which every phone user hates very much, which in this case I have been a victim.

I consistently thought that licking the contact point of a phone battery is a very healthy way of knowing if your battery is still alive and kicking and also to test for the charge in it. This understanding is what I knew almost every phone technician thinks its good for phone batteries but on the contrary, I was amazed to find out just today as I bought a new phone, specifically Tecno W5 lite and I proceeded to read the guide inscribed into the phone so as to make a better user.

I was suprised to find out that the actions we take everyday (licking the point of contact) thinking its designated to detect the battery life was actually wrong. Licking the battery contact point causes short circuit, rusts battery and reduces the battery efficiency

‘Nnamdi Kanu Is A Threat To National Security’ – FG Files Application For His Bail revocation

The Federal Government on Friday, August 25, filed a fresh application before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking immediate revocation of the bail granted to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
FG predicated the application on section 169 and 173(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Describing Kanu as a threat to national security and insisting that he has mortgaged his personal liberty, haven
engaged in several acts it said were capable of sparking civil unrest and anarchy in the country.
Aside asking the court to void the bail it gave the IPOB leader on April 25, FG, further applied for an order “directing the arrest and committing of the 1st defendant to custody pending trial”.
Kanu is facing treasonable felony charge alongside four other pro-Biafra agitators-Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi and Bright Chimezie. The defendants are expected to enter fresh plea to the amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015, before trial Justice Binta Nyako, on October 17, 2017.

‘Why I Missed Governors’ Meeting With Buhari Despite Being Invited’ – Fayose

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has attributed his absence at the Presidential Villa for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to the chieftaincy title he was conferred with in Ekiti State on the same day the President met with State Governors.
Recall Buhari shortly after meeting with leadership of the All Progressives Congress and Peoples’ Democratic Party met with state governors.
However, giving reasons for his absence at the meeting, Fayose said he could not abandon his planned event just to attend a impromptu meeting with Buhari.
Governor Fayose who took to his twitter handle to state his reasons for being absent at the meeting said although he received the invitation for the meeting, he had however already scheduled meetings with some respected citizens in preparations for his chieftaincy title installation as the Apesin of Ado Ekiti.
He also said that “he could not have abandoned his guests for an impromptu meeting with the president.”
According to him, “For those insinuating that I shunned the president’s meeting with governors, I didn’t. I had my installation as Apesin of Ado Ekiti slated for today.
“Guests were already in Ekiti since yesterday for the chieftaincy title installation before I received notice of the meeting with the President. “There was no how I could have abandoned the people here in Ado Ekiti for the impromptu meeting with the President

Strike: ASUU decides on resumption today — 26th August

A crucial National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is going on to decide on offers made by the Federal Government team last week to persuade its striking members to return to work.
Ahead of the NEC meeting, various
zones of ASUU had met also to consider the offer as well as inputs from the various branches for presentation to the NEC.
ASUU had embarked on an indefinite strike on August 14, accusing government of failure to redeem the terms of agreement signed in 2009 and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) endorsed by both parties in 2012.
One of the zonal coordinators of ASUU told Saturday Sun : “I must state that the offer from the Federal Government is a far cry from our members’ expectations. Let us see what comes out of this emergency NEC meeting. Many of our members are not happy with the way government is handling our demands. It is up to NEC to take a position on the on-going strike. Our members are prepared for a long strike, but it depends on the government.”
He debunked a claim by the Education Minister that ASUU would call off the strike this week, saying, “we didn’t promise the minister anything. We told the government team that we are going to consult with our members on what government has offered”.
He described the likely outcome of NEC meeting, as 50-50, saying members wanted to see concrete evidence that government was serious about meeting the demands. The minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, had, admitted that “government has not fulfilled its part of the bargain, even though we are unhappy that ASUU went on this strike without following due process and giving us good notice. We realised that we promised something and we didn’t fulfill it.

FG wants to destroy universities in Nigeria - ASUU, VCs reject new cut-off marks

Vice-Chancellors and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have spearheaded the rejection of the decision of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to peg admission cut-off mark at 120 for universities and 100 for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education.

ASUU said the action was in tandem “with the dream of the present government to destroy public universities in the country.”

Below are some quotes from some vice chancellors, ASUU and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as obtained by The Punch:

Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan(UI), Professor Idowu Olayinka, in a statement released by his Media Assistant, Mr Sunday Saanu, on Thursday, August 24, said UI stated that it would never admit any candidate that scored 120 in the UTME.
Olayinka said: “It is gratifying to note that the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who chaired the meeting, apologised publicly for canceling the post-UTME screening last year.

“In effect, universities are now allowed to conduct the test using modalities approved by the Senate of each institution.

“To be fair to the incumbent Registrar of JAMB, he was not the Registrar when the policy somersault of cancelling the post-UTME test was made last year.

"As strongly canvassed by us at every opportunity, for UI, the need to admit the best admission seekers is the primary motivation for the test and not money, even though we do not pretend that you can run any university so properly called without funds

The Vice-Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ogun state, Professor Oluyemisi Obilade, on his own part said that the onus would ultimately fall on parents and employers of labour to decide “between a first-class graduate of a university which takes 120 as its cut-off mark or one that takes 180 as its cut-off mark.’’

According to her, TASUED would never go below 180. She also said that many of the VCs at the Combined Policy Meeting during which the 120 benchmark decision was made, said they would not go below 180.

“But some universities chose 120 at the meeting. What the JAMB has done is to transfer power back to the Senate of universities to decide their cut-off marks.

"What I can tell you is that many public universities and even private universities will not go below 200. We were told that some universities were doing what they called ‘under the table admission’ and then come back to JAMB after four years for regularisation.

“TASUED will not go below 180, not under my watch. Even in the United States, there is what we call Ivy League universities, and there are those you can call ‘Next Level Universities.’

"There are also those that are termed community colleges. At the meeting, the outcome is that universities have been given the freedom to decide. It is not general legislation and it is not binding on everybody," she said.

Dr Deji Omole, the chairman of ASUU at the University of Ibadan, accused the present government of trying to destroy education in the country.

He said: “Rather than sanctioning the identified universities that admitted over 17,000 students illegally, the JAMB registrar simply regularised illegality and lowered cut-off marks to favour the interests of the friends of government who own private universities and are hell bent on destroying public education.”

Omole said it was vital for JAMB to be scrapped in order to save the nation’s education and its future.

“Where are the students that the JAMB registrar said entered universities illegally? Which universities admitted them?

"If 30 per cent did not take JAMB and found their way into the university system, is that not corruption and a message that JAMB is not significant anymore? What sanction did those who did the illegal thing receive other than regularisation of illegality.

“We are watching because long before now we have said that JAMB has outlived its usefulness. Let the universities set their unique standards and those who are qualified can come in.

"Scoring 120 out of 400 marks is 30 per cent. Even in those days, 40 per cent was graded as pass. But now JAMB said with F9 which is scoring 30 per cent you can be admitted.

“They deliberately want to destroy education. Even for polytechnic, 100 marks is 25 per cent. It is sad. And that is where we are in Nigeria. They want to destroy public education at all costs.

"This is not setting standard for education in Nigeria. It is purely lowering standards and digging grave for the future. This is why ASUU is currently on the struggle to influence the government to do the needful for education in Nigeria,” he said.

Professor Kayode Alese, the Dean of Students Affairs, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), said that the institution would soon unveil its cut-off mark.

“However, I can assure you that FUTA has never gone as low as 120. It has never happened and it will never happen.

“Having spoken for the university, my personal opinion is that the 120 cut-off mark will not add value to our education system.

"The Federal Government has just increased the pass mark from 40 to 45 in universities. What that means is that you must score at least 45 for you to pass any course.

"We have enough candidates and yes you may try to increase access but tertiary education should be for those who have the capability.’’

Prof. Tope Ogunmodede, the Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, said the institution would not admit any candidate with 120 UTME score.

“Traditionally, OAU has never admitted students who scored below 200 in the UTME. For us, we are sticking to 200.

"The minimum benchmark is 120 but you can go higher than that. I expect that an institution should be able to determine the quality of its graduates because there are internal exams. What has been done is to provide a leeway for universities to decide their cut-off marks,” he explained.

Meanwhile, NANS has described the reduction of the cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions as “a gross misplacement of priority and an exercise in futility.”

However, Prof. Friday Ndubuisi, the Vice-Chancellor of the Christopher University, Ogun state has a different view. He said the new admission benchmark would have no negative implication on the quality of education.

He said: “This is not an imposition. The cut-off mark is a minimum benchmark for admission. This idea of taking the UTME every year without getting admission is worrying.

"About 1.6 million candidates sat for the examination this year and about 500,000 will be admitted mostly because of the cut-off mark.

"Most universities will not go below 200, but with five credits obtained in two sittings, a person should be qualified for admission. This is, however, not an imposition. Universities still get to decide on whom to admit through the post-UTME.’’
Earlier reported that Prof. Ishaq Oloyede who is the registrar of JAMB allayed the fears of Nigerians insinuating that it was a testament to the failure in the sector.

He said the board recommendation was to only provide the institutions with a benchmark and that universities could raise their cut off marks above 120 but not more than 180.
